Cabarette

Spent about 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic and loved most everything about the island.

Cabarette, is a small town on the North East side of the island. It has the reputation of being very windy, much of the year. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me, and little kitesurfing could be had. Lucky there were a lot of other things to do, along with drinking.

One day, Kat and I rented Quads and went on a fast and fun tour of the back country. At the end of the day we were exhausted and covered in mud. Also, near the town you can rent a glider, go horse back riding, Stand Up Paddle, hiking, fishing, diving, and kayaking. Drive about an hour to the South, and the surfing was quite impressive.

Cabarette has many restaurants and bars, right on the beach. Real quaint and fun to hang out at night, with a friendly atmosphere.

My helpers. These kids were glued to me the entire trip. They were eager to make money and made sure I didn't lift a finger. One sad aspect was that they didn't attend school.

Finally got a half day of Kiting, and not a minute was wasted, thank's to my little helpers!

The only other small issue I had with the area, was the fact that there was no police presence. Most of the locals wore guns and the food stores had scary looking guards with automatic weapons. One night, we were siting out on the patio having drinks, when all of a sudden gun fire broke out RIGHT NEXT DOOR! What a buzz killer. I would go back to the island again, but not the best place for women and children. My humble opinion.
